Trump’s purge of climate initiatives will force you to pay higher prices for energy

President Trump’s rollback of carbon pollution standards will spike everybody’s electricity bills while increasing toxic air pollution.

America’s coal and gas power plants no longer have to follow rules that reduce carbon emissions or cut mercury and particulate matter pollution.

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the repeal of federal limits on power plant climate pollution. The power sector is the second biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. These rules were supposed to cut pollution by 75% compared to 2005 levels within ten years.

Coming after the Trump Administration issued an emergency order to keep the aging power plant Eddystone Generating Station in Southeastern PA operating past its retirement date, these changes will force Pennsylvanians to pay more for dirty energy from inefficient aging plants.

The focus on making profits for yesterday’s fossil fuel power plants is taking priority over people’s health, their savings, and protecting the natural environment.
If the federal government isn’t going to protect us from harmful toxins, it’s now more urgent that the Commonwealth take charge of cutting carbon emissions with a clear, long-term plan for power generation in Pennsylvania.
