Repealing the Endangerment Finding is a U.S. disgrace and upends efforts to clean up climate pollution

This is a corporate handout for polluters paid for with our health and clean environment

PennFuture & Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Statement

Thursday, February 12, 2026, HARRISBURG, PA — Today, the Trump Administration announced the repeal of the 2009 Endangerment Finding, a scientifically-supported framework for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

EPA’s repeal of the Endangerment Finding is the single biggest blow to our ability to protect our communities from the devastation of climate impacts. PennFuture and Conservation Voters of PA are outraged by EPA’s reckless disregard for community health and the imminent threats to our environment. Pennsylvania state leaders now have an obligation to step up its environmental protections, and we vow to hold them accountable every step of the way.

It is a bedrock scientific truth that greenhouse gas pollution endangers human health and the environment. EPA’s repeal of the Endangerment Finding is nothing more than a blatant political move based on lies. The suggestion that the Agency can skip out on its responsibilities to regulate pollutants that impact human health and the environment is unsupportable. The only people benefiting from repealing regulations on greenhouse gas emissions are the wealthy shareholders of polluting fossil fuel companies. The American people will be greatly harmed by this decision for generations to come.

“Repealing the Endangerment Finding will lead to more deaths and will cost Americans trillions in healthcare costs, property losses and additional pressures on farmers, towns and small businesses,” said PennFuture’s president & CEO Patrick McDonnell. “Pretending climate change does not exist may benefit tech billionaires and polluters, but it is a devastating blow to everyday Americans.”

“The Trump Administration has proven time and time again to be on the side of polluters, not people,” said Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania’s Executive Director Molly Parzen. “This radical decision sets the work to protect Americans from the devastating public impacts of pollution back decades. The scientific facts underpinning the Endangerment Finding are not up for debate. As the federal government fully abandons its responsibility to protect our health, we urgently call on Governor Shapiro and legislative leaders in Harrisburg to come together and pass laws that will decrease pollution, increase clean energy, and protect the health of all Pennsylvanians.”

This unconscionable rollback could not come at a worse time for the US, with AI data centers projected to emit 24 to 44 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually by 2030 and the Trump Administration doing everything they can to bring zombie coal plants back online. Pennsylvania currently ranks fourth nationally in greenhouse gas emissions, and residents are actively being harmed by the impacts of climate change in their communities like through record-breaking heat waves and dangerous flooding events. Instead of protecting us, the EPA today has only made it worse.
