PennFuture responds to grand jury recommendations concerning fracked gas industry in Pennsylvania

PennFuture President and CEO Jacquelyn Bonomo offered the following statement in reaction to the grand jury recommendations released on June 25:

“PennFuture strongly supports the commonsense recommendations made today by the attorney general’s grand jury, and we are hopeful these suggestions will be implemented in an effort to hold the failing fracked gas industry accountable,” said PennFuture President and CEO Jacquelyn Bonomo. “This industry has blatantly run afoul of our laws, disrespected our communities and destroyed our natural resources. So much more needs to be done to protect our public health and our environment, and the recommendations spelled out today are a welcomed step in the right direction. Ultimately, Pennsylvania needs to reckon with a basic fact: we cannot continue to be taken advantage of by the fossil fuel industry, and state leaders need to hold the industry responsible while moving our economy aggressively away to more sustainable, family-sustaining industries.”
