PennFuture responds to executive order establishing Civilian Climate Corps Initiative

“PennFuture applauds President Biden’s executive order issued on Jan. 27 that calls for the establishment of a Civilian Climate Corps Initiative at the federal level,” said PennFuture President and CEO Jacquelyn Bonomo. “Pennsylvania is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this jobs program. Our natural infrastructure, intact forests, parks, and waterways can be protected and improved to put people back to work. PennFuture’s “A Green Stimulus and Recovery Platform for Pennsylvania” report identifies tens of thousands of jobs that could be created to repair and improve Pennsylvania’s state forests and parks, to address legacy pollution—including more than 100,000 abandoned oil and gas wells—and to improve water quality and climate resilience by restoring stream buffers. We eagerly anticipate a new generation of Americans working to conserve, preserve and restore our public lands and waters, all while addressing the climate crisis at our doorstep. PennFuture welcomes the chance to engage with the Biden Administration as this program gets up and running in Pennsylvania.”
