PennFuture responds to Gov. Wolf's veto of Senate Concurrent Resolution 1

“This disapproval resolution is the latest attempt by lawmakers to obstruct the will of Pennsylvanians. A strong and growing majority in the Commonwealth supports climate action and Governor Wolf is following through after more than a decade of legislative neglect,” said Rob Altenburg, PennFuture’s Senior Director for Energy and Climate. “PennFuture strongly supports Pennsylvania enacting a carbon reduction program that creates jobs and invests in communities historically plagued by pollution and decades of fossil fuel industry malfeasance.”

Brazenly, the legislature has also tried to delay climate action by ignoring the law and our Constitution. Under statute, Governor Wolf’s carbon reduction program should already be in effect, but the legislature continues to make up the rules to drag out the process. These delays are a gift to polluters who continue to get a free pass to dump their waste into our air, creating suffering in our communities.

While PennFuture supports Governor Wolf’s veto of this disapproval resolution, it’s unfortunate this action is even necessary."
