PennFuture reacts to House Bill 1100 being sent to Gov. Wolf

On March 18, PennFuture issued the following statement in reaction to the state Legislature sending House Bill 1100 to Gov. Tom Wolf.

"At a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is gripping our Commonwealth and the nation, and at a time when our elected leaders should be working solely to keep Pennsylvanians safe and reassured, they instead acted on behalf of the fracked gas and petrochemical industries by offering billions in taxpayer handouts,” said Jacquelyn Bonomo, President and CEO of PennFuture. “The legislature waited weeks to send its fracked gas bailout bill to the Governor in an effort to give its proponents maximum time to build political pressure for its passage. Now, they’ve moved the bill in the midst of a national health crisis when the public is rightfully distracted. Think about where the legislatures’ priorities are: they’re asking the Governor to spend billions more in taxpayer handouts to fossil fuel facilities that will cause more respiratory disease rather than invest in an aggressive response to a pandemic that is harming those with underlying health conditions the most. It’s craven politics at its worst.”
