PennFuture, CVPA release joint statement about mail-in law being overturned

PennFuture President and CEO Jacquelyn Bonomo and Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Interim Executive Director Molly Parzen issued the following joint statement in response to a divided Commonwealth Court decision today striking down Pennsylvania’s landmark mail voting law:

“Today’s Commonwealth Court decision to strike down Pennsylvania’s vote by mail law erects barriers that threaten to disenfranchise millions of voters across the Commonwealth at a time when we should be expanding access to the ballot, not curtailing it. Act 77, the law that brought about expanded mail-in voting, passed with wide bipartisan support in 2019, and it undoubtedly increased access to voting for people who have traditionally been left out of the voting process. The legal challenges to Act 77 are part of a nationwide effort to weaken our democratic institutions and subvert the will of the voters, and we call on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to see the very real harms this decision will inflict on voters, particularly people of color and those traditionally denied political power, and to quickly protect expanded mail voting in the Commonwealth.”
