1/17: Penn State Behrend Documentary Screening, At the River I Stand, The Climax of the Civil Rights Movement

1/15: Let Freedom Sing at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater FEATURING Anqwenique Kinsel, Alton Merrell, The Heritage Gospel Chorale of Pittsburgh, & The MLK Festival Singers

Also at Kelly Strayhorn Theaters at noon: Justice in Action (family-friendly activities!) 

1/15: Hazelwood MLK Brunch at the Spartan Community Center from 11am- 2pm (bingo, art activities, jazz, and more!)

1/12-1/15: Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend at The African American Museum in Philadelphia. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and through the generosity of Citizens, the African American Museum is hosting a weekend of activities including performances, meaningful discussions, family activities, and access to exhibits.​

1/13: MLK Celebration Concert featuring the voices tribute to Motown at World Cafe Live- ticketed event

1/15: Bartram’s Garden from 10am-noon: Help beautify the Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood during the two-hour Martin Luther King Day of Service community project, sponsored by Bartram’s Garden, one of the city’s largest public gardens

Lehigh Valley

1/15: The Dr. Martin Luther King Civil Rights Movement March will be held rain or shine in Bethlehem. The procession will begin at 11:45 a.m. in front of the Comfort Suites, 120 W. Third St. and proceed to Martin Luther King Park on Carlton Avenue, the location of memorials to both Dr. King and his wife Coretta Scott King.

1/15: The NAACP Bethlehem Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, “Stony the Road We Trod,” 3 p.m. at Cathedral Church of the Nativity, 321 Wyandotte St., Bethlehem. Guest speaker: Zoe Bronson, Moravian University. Music by students from Northeast Middle School and Nitschmann Middle School, and dance presentation from En L’Air Dance Company. Refreshments served. 1/16-1/17: Allentown Art Museum: Celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and African American art, history, and culture over two days of influential speakers, meaningful discussions, inspiring entertainers, and encouraging art making.

1/14: Scranton Area Community Foundation Dinner at 2pm.to celebrate the life, legacy and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Commission is focusing on the increasing threat of anti-Semitism, the effects of othering and the importance of belonging for our Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and LGBTQ+ communities.

1/15: Blankets & Broths: An MLK Day of Service: 9:30am at the Friedman Jewish Community Center. Join the Wilkes-Barre NAACP, Friedman JCC, O’Donnell Law Firm, and Wilkes-Barre City Health Department on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They will be assembling blankets and collecting cans of soup for those in need.

Harrisburg, PA

1/15: MLK Day of Reading- Founded by Floyd Stokes, the American Literacy Corporation encourages parents and children to participate in a day of reading and learning. The event offers the ability to visit 20 locations that will host a variety of local community leaders reading to children about the importance of diversity in their communities.

1/15: National MLK Day of Service Join Central PA MLK-365 at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church at 212 N Progress Ave, Harrisburg, PA 17109 at 9:00am to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act! They will kick things off with a short morning program and then invite you to participate in different service projects and activities for individuals & families.
