Cambria Coke Challenge to the air quality permit granted by DEP for a proposed coke plant. / Soon after the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) set a hearing date for this appeal, Cambria Coke announced it had decided not to build the plant, at least for now. The company apparently made this decision based on the downturn in the world market for coke. PECO Energy Company’s Petition to purchase Alternative Energy Credits for Banking under the AEPS Act This case is the first instance of a company seeking to purchase 450,000 non-solar Tier I alternative energy credits annually, for a five-year period to be banked for future compliance with the AEPS Act. The Office of Small Business Advocate opposed PECO’s proposed plan by urging the PUC to adopt two narrow interpretations of the Act. PennFuture intervened and filed a brief supporting PECO’s proposal. At stake is not only important interpretations of the statute, but also a significant procurement of credits that will promote development of alternative sources of energy in the PJM territory / The parties reached a stipulation that submits three legal interpretations of the statute to the PUC for determination. PECO/PSE&G Merger Seek renewable energy benefits from merger which would result in the nation s largest utility. / In January of 2006, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved a settlement between the merging companies, PennFuture, and other parties that provided $19.2 million for renewable energy programs.
