Because there is no perfect and absolute zero polluting form of energy, the greenest energy is the energy you never use. Eliminating energy waste should be everyone's top priority.

Make every kilowatt count.
Energy conservation is the most cost-effective way to lower electricity bills, reduce the risk of blackouts, improve electric system reliability, lower heat-trapping gas emissions and create great green jobs. This explains why energy conservation and energy efficiency are such important components of a 21st Century energy plan.
There are a variety of strategies you can use to cut energy waste.
They range from free (turn off the lights when you leave the room) to low cost and low tech (switch from incandescent lights to compact fluorescent lights or, even better, light emitting diodes) to higher cost and higher tech (install a smart meter and use computer connections to automatically reduce electricity use when costs are higher). Some strategies require little change in how you live your life today; others may call for greater change, eliminating or replacing appliances or habits and making lifestyle changes.
In September 2008, a new law that requires all electricity utilities to offer energy conservation help to all types of customers went into effect. As these programs become available, Pennsylvania's families and businesses will have a wide range of strategies and technologies available to help them stop wasting energy. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) is responsible for these programs so check the PUC Web site for developments.
