Established by PennFuture with the generous support of the Heinz Endowments, the Environmental Communications Center provides media training, ongoing technical assistance, market research and campaign development assistance to environmental and conservation organizations in western Pennsylvania.

Limited pro bono and more expansive fee-based services are available to assist public interest groups take their messages to the media. Learn how to frame the debate in your terms, make a better appearance on camera, create press lists and material and use new electronic tools including video and audio releases, blogs and podcasts. Specific training and help with low-cost podcast development is available to help you deliver your message, unfiltered, to the world through Internet broadcasting.

Strategic media training
PennFuture's Environmental Communications Center periodically offers strategic media training to environmental and other public interest staff, volunteers and activists.

The training includes the information and support you need to develop or implement your strategic communications plan. You'll learn the who, what, when, where, why and how of dealing with the media: how to craft press lines and sound bites, how to read and understand polls, focus groups and other marketing tools, how to make an impact on camera and in front of the microphone, how you look on camera (and how to look better), how your Web presence can impact your organization and how to gain agreement from others in your organization (and from other organizations) on media strategies and tactics.
